Contemporary Winter Wedding Ideas

Although previously not seen as the quintessential wedding season, winter has become a unique time to host the big day. Especially in the Great White North – where it seems to last for 10 months out of 12! All jokes aside, we decided to pull together some contemporary winter wedding ideas from a few superstar wedding professionals to share and hopefully inspire you in preparation for the big day.

Holiday Wedding

by Christine from White Watermelon Event Design

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Christine on multiple projects. She always brings a fresh twist to her work, so we are super ecstatic for her to share holiday wedding decor ideas:

So, you’ve decided on a winter wedding! You’re in luck! Not only will things be less expensive because it’s the off season, but if you’re looking to keep a Winter Wonderland theme or include red or green in your décor scheme, everything will be heavily available as early as Halloween!

The most popular and quintessential décor pieces you need for your winter wedding are; pine cones, spruce garlands and warm white Christmas lights! They’re everywhere this time of year and if you’ve gotten engaged a year before – you’re in even better luck, because you can buy at the end of the season and save a ton! Other than that, choosing things that are easily accessible, like poinsettia’s, birch tree
stumps, fur throws and Cranberries can all make amazing décor pieces! Check out a mood board of these inspirations.

winter wedding gowns

by Madison from Blu Ivory Bridal

I can not speak more highly about this group of talented, and kindhearted Wonderwomen. Blu Ivory Bridal girls helped me find my perfect winter piece. Of course I had to go to them for advice on most popular versus classic winter gowns. Here is what they have to say:

Most of our Winter 2019 brides are looking for a true princess winter wonderland look! Ballgowns or A-line’s for shape, sparkle and beading for accents, and fur shrugs for accessories! Chad by Sottero and Midgley and Raine by Calla Blanche are two perfect representations of the Winter 2019 bridal trends. Both gowns are A-line styles and adorned with infinite sparkles!
Being that the winter months in Ontario are extremely cold, most brides getting married at this time are very conscious of the fabric used for their wedding gown. Therefore, fabrics such as satin or mikado are typically warmer and a better choice than other lighter materials. Most winter brides also love the idea of a bright ivory gown as opposed to the champagnes and blushes due to the fact that the ivory matches the snowy backdrop. Style 6718 by Stella York is a beautiful dove satin in a crisp ivory.

winter florals

by Nafeesa from Princess Decor and Gifts

We had the pleasure of seeing Nafeesa’s work at one of the weddings we photographed downtown Toronto. Her meticulous attention to detail and luxurious vision caught our attention. I asked Nafeesa to share her ideas about quintessential winter wedding florals and decor:

For us we find most winter brides want the winter look – branch trees , hanging Crystal’s, and blue silver and white tones.  Even our corporate clients get in on the action with candlelight and fresh white flowers. Winter greenery is also very popular as is creates a holiday smell of pine and cedar in the space.
