Now the tale of dress shopping begins
I’m sure we all know girls who prepare for their wedding day for years. They spend their teenage years imagining the big day. For many, the most exciting element is the wedding dress. Weather its the quintessential princess ball gown or a timeless a-line, many girls have an idea of how they want to look like on a wedding day.
That was never my path. I haven’t even considered my dress or any other wedding related details until my now husband proposed two years ago. If you know me, you know that I am a very indecisive and who overthink the living hell out of everything. Of course the search for a wedding dress was not an exception.
Doing the research
My journey began with what seemed like an exciting prospect of looking up my options online. Oh boy was that a challenge and a half. Not only did I have to decide on the style and the shape, I was also faced with having to choose a designer! So after an extensive amount of decision making and with the sound power of elimination I picked a few styles and designers that I thought would work for me.
Next came the step of figuring out where to go to try the dresses on. Luckily, my friend was also getting married around the same time so we decided to tag-team and look for dresses together. We ended up at a larger bridal salon on one Saturday afternoon.
What to expect at larger bridal salons
From an occasional glimpse at bridal reality shows my expectation was that we would be treated like royalties. Evidently, I was in for a rude awakening. Even though we arrived on time for our appointment, we had to wait for change rooms to free up. It would have been ideal to try on the dresses at the same time, but due to the volume of clients, that was not a possibility.
As my turn came around I was rushed to pick out the gowns that I wanted to try on. Same energy carried over into the change room. The consultant kept running in and out of our appointment to assist another bride, leaving me half dressed and waiting for help with the dress. Long story short, I did not find the dress on that Saturday even though I felt like if it was up to my consultant I should have made the decision on the spot.
How I ended up at Blu Ivory Bridal
After that “conveyor belt” shopping experience I decided to try a different environment. Just so happened that one of my favorite breakfast spots was close to a small bridal boutique in an Italian neighborhood of Toronto. I decided to call them up and ask if they could schedule me in. For whatever reason I was reluctant to visit smaller boutiques before. My thinking was that they would be more expensive and upscale. So I decided to call them up and see if they have the gowns that I liked and ask for an appointment.
From the get-go, I noticed a difference in the way I was treated. The girl on the other side of the receiver was bubbly and a pleasure to talk to. We found a time for an appointment in a few weeks. And just like that I was back on the wedding dress hunt with Blu Ivory Bridal as my next stop.
The ultimate shopping experience
This time I brought my mom as a second set of eyes, plus I always respect her opinion since we share a similar taste. Our consultant greeted us and took us around the store explaining what types of gowns are located where. After the tour, she gave us some space to pick out a few gowns to try on and was always present in the background to offer assistance. The process of trying the dresses on was infinitely more enjoyable with consultant being present and invested in the process. Not to mention that we were allowed to take pictures, which is a big NO in most bridal salons.
With the help of my consultant, my mom and my phone camera I found the perfect dress on that day! I chose Maggie Sottero’s Phyllis dress and I am still in awe every time I look at it. In retrospect, I really do believe that my experience at Blu Ivory Bridal was an ideal way to shop. The team felt more like a group of friends than sales consultants. They made me comfortable with my choices and guided me with advice based on their experience. I was also never pressured to make a decision and I contribute that to my successful shopping. Considering my previous experience, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of attention and support that i received.
A day in life at Blu Ivory Bridal
I know that I hit a jack-pot with Blu Ivory Bridal. The people and the level of customer service really made my shopping experience exceptional. Recently, I got a chance to spend a day with the team observing their work flow I was once again convinced that this Blu Ivory bridal is on a different level of when it comes bridal shopping. I captured the beautiful brides shining like diamonds in stunning gowns. I had such a great time seeing all of the beautiful dresses and the brides to be!
During the time that I spent with the team, I learned that Blu Ivory Bridal is operated by a second generation wedding boutique owner. His parents were in business for over 20 years, and he decided to take on the craft. The salon has been around in its current state for over 5 years and the team is already taking some pretty major awards for their service.
There is a definite family feel to Blu Ivory Bridal. During the times that I visited, I got to know the manager who adores the team and is super excited about what she does. The difference is apparent in the way that brides are treated as all of the girls are always supportive and invested. The vibe is so positive that by the end of the day I felt like I was part of the team too. After a lovely day spend with the girls and their brides, I am convinced that a small boutique salon shopping experience is away to go. Here is to hoping that every bride finds her perfect wedding boutique as I did with Blu Ivory Bridal.
